Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1

How long does concrete curbing last?

Accepted Answer

Properly installed and maintained concrete curbing can last 20 years or more. BorderWerx uses a continuous-pour machine, integral color throughout the concrete (not just on the surface), and a professional-grade sealant on every job. The biggest factors in longevity are the quality of the initial installation, regular re-sealing every 2–3 years, and avoiding harsh chemical de-icers near the curbing.

Question 2

What's the difference between standard mower edging and slant curbing?

Accepted Answer

Standard mower edging is a low-profile, flat-topped border that sits flush enough for a mower wheel to ride along the top — making lawn maintenance easier and cleaner. Slant curbing has a taller, angled profile that creates a more defined visual separation between your lawn and garden beds. It's a popular choice for decorative landscaping where curb appeal matters. We offer several profile options and can show you samples during your free on-site estimate.

Question 3

Can I choose the color of my curbing?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. We offer a full palette of integral concrete colors — meaning the color runs all the way through the concrete, not just on the surface. This makes the color far more durable than a surface-applied stain. Popular choices include natural gray, tan, brick red, and charcoal, but we can work with you to find a color that complements your home's exterior and landscaping. We can show you color samples at your estimate appointment.

Question 4

How do I maintain my curbing after installation?

Accepted Answer

Concrete curbing is low-maintenance, but a few simple habits will keep it looking great for years. Re-seal every 2–3 years with a professional-grade sealant — BorderWerx offers this as a standalone service. Avoid rock salt and calcium chloride near the curbing; use sand for traction instead. Keep soil and mulch levels at or below the top of the curbing edge to prevent moisture buildup. And if you notice a small crack developing, address it early — repairs are much simpler and less costly before a crack spreads.

Question 5

What areas do you service?

Accepted Answer

BorderWerx is based in Waconia, Minnesota, and serves the surrounding communities including Mound, Minnetonka, Chaska, Victoria, Watertown, and the broader western Twin Cities metro area. Not sure if we cover your location? Give us a call or send a message — we're happy to confirm coverage for your address.

Question 6

Can I get a quote online, or do you need to visit the property?

Accepted Answer

For concrete curbing, an on-site visit is the most accurate way to quote a project — we need to measure the linear footage, assess the site conditions, and walk through style and color options with you. That said, if you have a rough idea of your project scope, feel free to reach out through our contact form and we can give you a ballpark range before scheduling a visit. All on-site estimates are free and come with no obligation.

Question 7

Do you install curbing in winter?

Accepted Answer

Concrete curbing installation is a warm-weather service. We typically operate from spring through fall, when ground temperatures are suitable for proper concrete curing. Attempting to pour concrete in freezing conditions risks premature cracking and poor adhesion. If you're planning a project, we recommend reaching out in late winter or early spring to get on the schedule before the busy season fills up.

Question 8

Do you offer snow removal year-round contracts or just per-visit?

Accepted Answer

We offer both. Our seasonal contracts are the most popular option — you pay a flat rate for the season and we monitor conditions, dispatching automatically after a 1-inch snowfall trigger. This means you never have to call or worry about whether service is coming. For homeowners who prefer flexibility, we also offer per-visit on-call service. Commercial properties can be set up on a custom service agreement tailored to their specific needs and schedule.

Question 9

What if I'm not satisfied with the work?

Accepted Answer

We stand behind everything we do. If you have a concern about your curbing installation within the warranty period, or if a snow removal visit didn't meet the agreed scope, contact us directly and we'll make it right — no runaround. Concrete curbing is covered by a two-year workmanship warranty, and snow removal contracts include a satisfaction guarantee with a return-visit commitment. See our full Warranty page for details on what's covered.

Question 10

How long does a typical curbing installation take?

Accepted Answer

Most residential curbing projects are completed in a single day. The timeline depends on the total linear footage, site complexity, and weather conditions. After the pour, the curbing needs 24–48 hours to cure before it can be walked on, and we recommend waiting 72 hours before placing heavy objects or mulch against it. We'll give you a clear timeline at your estimate so you can plan accordingly.
